The theory behind cosmetic periodontics is relatively simple. By ensuring that the gums are healthy looking, a periodontist ensures that the overall appearance of our teeth and of our smile is maintained and enhanced. Periodontists can do such things as trim excess gum tissue to improve the appearance of a smile, or at the other end of the spectrum, replace missing gum tissue around teeth.
